Food Security and Livelihood

GHHA aims to improve food security and capacity building through sustainable agricultural production despite political, socio-economic, climate and disease emergencies. To achieve this goal, GHHA will utilize various methods such as emergency food distribution, improved livestock health, bee-keeping, conditional and unconditional cash transfers, agricultural training, fishing kits and tools, and business start-up kits. GHHA will conduct training to lead farmers on post-harvest and adaptive farming technologies.

GHHA aims to enhance food security and improve the capacity of farmers to ensure sustainable agricultural production, despite emergencies related to politics, socio-economics, climate, and disease. The program’s specific goals are:

Emergency food distribution: to provide timely food aid to vulnerable populations affected by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters

Improved livestock health: to enhance the productivity and resilience of livestock, which is a major source of income and food for many communities in South Sudan

Beekeeping: to promote beekeeping as an income-generating activity and to improve pollination and crop yields

Conditional cash transfer: to support households in meeting their basic needs and invest in productive assets such as livestock or small businesses, on the condition that they participate in activities to improve food security and livelihoods

Unconditional cash transfer: to provide a safety net for the most vulnerable households, including those who are unable to participate in activities due to illness, disability or other reasons.

Agricultural training: to build the capacity of farmers and extension workers in sustainable agriculture practices, including post-harvest management, soil conservation, and crop diversification.

Fishing kit and tools: to provide fishing equipment to fishing communities and support the development of sustainable fishing practices

Business start-up kits: to support the development of micro-enterprises and small businesses, providing livelihood opportunities and contributing to the local economy.
