Water Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash)

In rural settings, poor hygiene, unhealthy water, and unsanitary conditions can cause diarrheal diseases in children and adults. GHHA will improve latrine conditions, provide safe drinking water, and create effective hand-washing facilities in homes. In schools, children have the right to hand-washing facilities and more sanitary latrine conditions. GHHA will focus on eliminating gender-based violence, early, child and forced marriage, and advocate for rights regardless of sex, especially the right to an education.

GHHA works to improve access to clean water, sanitation facilities and hygiene education in vulnerable communities in South Sudan. The specific goals include:

  1. Drilling and maintenance of boreholes and wells for safe drinking water
  2. Construction of latrines and promotion of good sanitation practices
  3. Distribution of hygiene kits and education on proper hygiene practices
  4. Training of communities on water resource management and conservation
  5. Promotion of water treatment technologies such as filtration and chlorination
